A host of promising sprinters will face off in the 2015 The Cup Club Stakes at Moonee Valley Racecourse on Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes Day on the weekend, our insider betting tips on the handicap clash found right here.

Due to jump as Race 6 at 3:25pm (AEST) this year’s $120,000 Listed The Cup Club Stakes (1200m), formerly known as the Drummond Golf Stakes, features a full 14-starter field including first emergency Fast Cash coming in for the early scratching Gregers.

Leading The Cup Club Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au at $2.40 and firming is the market mover Fell Swoop shooting for a hat-trick of wins in on the trot.

Drawn in gate seven with top hoop Damien Oliver riding, the in-form Matthew Dale-trained Not A Single Doubt four-year-old comes off back-to-back Sydney wins and debuts in Melbourne having won six of his eight starts to date.

The Melbourne way of racing is the danger, but the form has been flawless in Sydney and at home at Canberra and he will be flying if he gets the gun run from the gate with the gun hoop in the saddle.

Outside the well-backed favourite the next best in The Cup Club Stakes betting are the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained Choisir mare Rose Of Choice ($7) who has a solid record at the distance (6-2-2-2), Lindsay Park’s War Pass stallion Galaxy Pegasus ($7) on the rails out to atone for a dead last in Group 1 company back in March and the Mark Kavanagh-trained Street Cry four-year-old Chivalry ($8).

So can a single figure hope take it out or is there value to be found further down the markets from something like Carlyon Cup runner-up at the track on August 22 Just Magical ($15) or Fast Cash ($16) now Wendy’s Kelly’s gelding is in the starting line-up?

#10 Galaxy Pegasus ($7)

Drawn the rails looks a good advantage for David Hayes & Tom Dabernig’s four-year-old who hasn’t raced since late March when 14^th of 14 runners behind Lucky Hussler in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley. His other run at the track produced a Group 3 win last Cox Plate Day however, and it is that form and not the Group 1 when outclassed by a stellar field at the end of a prep he’ll be out to repeat here. First-up record fresh is good (2-1-1-0) and from the gate can get up front and will be improving, a tough sprinter to beat if he’s on.

#1 Fast ‘N’ Rocking ($10)

The 60kg top weight and drawn wide? They are two definite distractions but Hayes & Dabernig’s other runner has the class factor and can still put in a big late run to finish in the money at a good price. The five-year-old was beaten under two lengths when fifth in the Regal Roller first-up at Caulfield, and will take improvement out of that run. If they are winning from the back this is one to include for sure.

#9 Fell Swoop ($2.40)

Red hot favourite who has been backed in from $3 to $2.40 with the back-to-back wins leading up to this. Experienced hoop Oliver rides in place of Blake Shinn, and while it is Sydney form this horse boasts, if he can repeat the same performances in Melbourne the opposite way of racing is a big danger in a close finish.
