Running as Randwick Race 4 at 2:30pm (AEST), this year’s edition of the $175,000 Group 2 Coolmore Furious Stakes (1200m) for three-year-old fillies has drawn a final field of 10.

Leading the charge out in gate eight with Blake Shinn aboard is Encosta De Lago filly English who was runner-up to star stablemate Vancouver in the $3 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) back in March.

That followed her win in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m), and her last start was on April 6 when sixth to Pride Of Dubai in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) when stepped out over further than 1200m for the first time.

Waterhouse has also accepted for Speak Fondly in barrier five who Kerrin McEvoy rides.

A winner of two of her five starts to date the daughter of Northern Meteor is also a Group 2 winner having taken out the Magic Night Stakes in mid-March before a disappointing 11th in the Slipper.

She kicked off her Sydney Spring Racing Carnival with another Group 2 win this time at Randwick over 1200m beating the fellow Waterhouse-trained Kimberley Star in the Silver Shadow Stakes where McEvoy also had the ride.

Also coming off a good top three run in the Silver Shadow Stakes on August 22, which is the traditional lead-up to the Furious Stakes, is the Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-trained Lake Geneva.

Third in both the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in Melbourne and the Golden Slipper in Sydney during an ace two-year-old season, Lake Geneva won first-up at Hawkesbury before the Silver Shadow third that she’ll be out to improve on this weekend.

She has had four previous runs over Saturday’s distance running third in all four, so is sure to be at short odds for the place through Ladbrokes.com.au.

Other fillies coming off a top three run include Peter & Paul Snowden’s last start winner Serene Majesty having just her third career start in the Furious Stakes, and the returning John O’Shea-trained duo of Ottoman and Calaverite who are drawn at opposite ends of the field in barriers four and 10 respectively.

James McDonald rides Exceed And Excel filly Ottoman whose last start was a win in the Group 3 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) in the wet at Randwick on April 11 where fellow Furious Stakes hope Lake Geneva ran third.

Calaverite meanwhile is a Sam Clipperton mount on the weekend, the nicely bred daughter of Lonhro having run second in the Percy Sykes Stakes when only a nose separated the Godolphin stablemates.

Other notable Furious Stakes hopefuls this spring include the Clarry Conners-trained Look To The Stars drawn a treat in gate two and the rails-drawn Perignon for Gerald Ryan who has also accepted for Fireworks.

I Am Invincible filly Look To The Stars won the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) in Brisbane two back and was last seen running a close second behind the Waller-trained Press Statement in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) over the mile at Doomben back in June.

Winner of that race Press Statement returned with a second in the Run To The Rose last weekend franking the form Look To The Stars will continue to add value to in her return.

Ryan’s Furious duo meanwhile are drawn well in gates three (Fireworks) and one (Perignon) with Brenton Avdulla and Hugh Bowman to ride respectively.
