2015 Sydney Cup on the Radar for Show The World

Disappointing over a four race preparation through the 2014 edition of the Autumn Carnival, New Zealand-based trainer Murray Baker has revealed Show The World will return to Australia for the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) on Day 2 of The Championships, should form warrant the trip.

Failing to finish outside the places over his maiden racing preparation through the 2013/14 summer, Show The World arrived in Australia will high expectations, but failed to impressive in beating just two runners home in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m), placing tenth in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) and seventh in both the Group 2 Tulloch Stales (2000m) and Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m).

Having returned to impressive form over his most recent campaign through the New Zealand spring and summer, capped by a comfortable win in the Hamilton Cup (2000m) over the weekend, Baker told Racing Ahead the High Chaparral gelding will earn a berth in the 2015 Sydney Cup if successful in the Group 1 Auckland Cup, also over two miles on March 4th.

“It’s fair to say he was very disappointing – he only plugged, it might have been a maturity thing,” Baker said of Show The World’s 2014 autumn campaign.

“He’s by High Chaparral out of Bazelle who was an Auckland Cup winner.

“Since he’s come back as a four-year-old this year he’s run very well, I think he’s won three out of six starts this time in.

“Probably needs a little bit more time yet but he’s joint favourite for the Auckland Cup.

“Should he run well you have to have a go at the Sydney Cup; it’s $1.6 million so we’d get him over.”

Baker could be offered two chances of success in the 2015 Sydney Cup, revealing Group 2 Wellington Cup champion Maygrove will definitely make an appearance at Randwick on April 11th.

“Maygrove is just having a short break after his Wellington Cup win and he’ll go over for the Sydney Cup,” Baker said.

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best odds on the 2015 Sydney Cup, for which Melbourne Cup fourth placegetter Signoff is rated a $7 favourite alongside 2014 Auckland Cup champion Who Shot Thebarman.
