With all the elite racing action happening in Sydney this weekend the Moonee Valley night racing program on Friday evening could have been overlooked, the card headed by the Alister Clark Stakes 2014.

While the bulk of the autumn features are now over in Melbourne with the excitement moving firmly to Sydney, punters are still treated to a beauty tomorrow night with a top field of three-year-olds for the $220,000 Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m).

Running as Moonee Valley Race 6 at 9:15pm (AEST), this year’s Alsiter Clark field features a capacity 14 starters plus two emergencies lying in wait.

Heading the field with the number one saddlecloth is the Chris Waller-trained Vilanova who has gate 13 to overcome.

The Commands gelding stepped up to black type after a number of easy early season runs on February 22, Craig Newitt guiding them to a good win in the Group 2 Autumn Classic (1800m).

Newitt retains the Alister Clark ride and will be hoping for a similar result under the lights for this Kiwi import.

There are three other last start winners in the Alister Clark Stakes field this year then with the David Hayes-trained Honey Steel’s Gold in the far outside barrier, Peter Moody’s lightly-raced Reset gelding Cadillac Mountain drawn ideally in gate two and Moe-based runner Slew Left (barrier nine).

Along with Cadillac Mountain Melbourne’s premier trainer Moody will also be represented by Group 2 Autumn Stakes fourth palced Bardem (barrier four) out to improve on their last start 12th to Shamus Award in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m).

Slew Left’s trainer Michael Templeton also has dual acceptors with All Rigged Up in barrier one who has been disappointing this season with two last place efforts at Moe and Sandown respectively.

Others coming off good lead-up form meanwhile include the Gai Waterhouse-trained Al Maher gelding Pheidon having just their fifth career start, Mista Spot for Anthony Freedman who won two on the trot before their last start third and Michael Kent’s Sebring filly Scratchy Bottom.

A winner at the track on debut during the spring, Scratchy Bottom also ran at Moonee Valley when fourth to Gypsy Diamond in the Group 2 Fillies Classic (1600m) during the Cox Plate Carnival.

She’s had two runs this autumn, a first-up win at Caulfield followed by a fourth to Solicit in the Group 3 The Mittys Vanity (1400m) from February 15.

The complete Alister Clark Stakes 2014 field, barriers, jockeys and set weights are detailed below.

Our preferred online betting agency Ladbrokes.com.au are due to open their Moonee Valley Friday night markets shortly so make sure you have an account open to get in on the action!
