They were the beaten favourite in the same race 12 months ago but Paul Jordan’s classy sprinter Right Time is on track to atone when they start near the top of the markets again in the Beaufine Stakes 2013 this Saturday.

Last year the Snippetson gelding jumped the punters’ pick in the $80,000 Listed Beaufine Stakes (1000m) having won four of their past five lead-up runs, the quartet of wins all over the same track and distance.

However come crunch time they could only manage to finish two and a half lengths away fourth to Megem’s Boy in their maiden black type assignment.

Since then their form has been a little hit and miss but Jordan remains confident Right Time can bounce back with a win in this year’s Beaufine, a much deserved result according to their trainer.

“He just hasn’t been able to knock one off,” Jordan said.

“He could struggle in this class, but this one doesn’t look overly strong. I’m sure he’ll run a good race.”

They are again one of the top fancies in Beaufine Stakes betting sitting as the $2.90 second pick behind the Steve Wolfe-trained Kalahaar ($2.80).

Kalahaar has the far outside barrier (10) to overcome in the short distance sprint, while Right Time will jump one on their inside from gate nine with Craig Staples in the saddle.

“He’s going pretty well and is really well in himself,” Jordan said.

“He’s drawn wide again. He hasn’t had much luck with barriers lately.”

It will be the first time Staples rides the horse since they paired up for a brave second behind Beach Express in the Listed Northam Toyota Stakes (1100m) back in early May.

The Northam Stakes was also the last time Right Time carried 54kg which they get on Saturday.

In their three runs since that black type placing they have had to lump 58kg, 60.5kg and most recently 59.5kg meaning they will relish their minimum weight in the Beaufine.

The reigning Beaufine Stakes winner Megem’s Boy is also back this year, Stan Bates’ Danehill Dancer seven-year-old failing to run top three since their win 12 months ago.

As such the out of form veteran pays $31 as the longest priced roughie in the Beaufine Stakes odds for 2013.
