2011 Queen’s Cup Final Field & Barrier Draw – Golden Slipper Day

Luen Yat Forever

Luen Yat Forever is one of the top chances in the 2011 Queen's Cup at Rosehill on Saturday

The $125,000 Group 3 Queen’s Cup (2000m) is one of the nine Group races taking place for Golden Slipper Day 2011 at Rosehill this Saturday and a full field of 16 gallopers have been accepted for the staying showdown.

Scheduled to run as Rosehill Race 8 at 4:50pm (AEDST), the 2011 Queen’s Cup field is lead by Peter Moody’s top-rated entry Luen Yat Forever.

Drawn in barrier eight and due to be ridden by Luke Nolen, Honours List five-year-old and former Macau Horse of the Year Luen Yat Forever is coming off a devastatingly close second to Older Than Time in the Listed Sky High Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill last weekend.

The Queen’s Cup could finally be the race that breaks Luen Yat Forever’s maiden status in Australia having failed to find the line first in his seven starts here dating back to October in the Toorak Handicap last season.

Two last-start winners are amongst this year’s Queen’s Cup field with the Lloyd Williams-owned Base and Gai Waterhouse’s King Lionheart both in career best form.

Zabeel four-year-old Base is seeking their fourth win on the trot, the ultra consistent gelding stepping up to Group company for the first time and also making their Sydney debut on Saturday.

Despite a wide barrier 11 draw, Base is sure to have his admirers.

King Lionheart has also drawn a double-digit gate, the Al Maher gelding set to start from barrier 10 and coming off a win over 2200m at Warwick Farm.

Other top chances in the 2011 Queen’s Cup Field include:

  • Kutchinsky (Tony Noonan) – Anabaa gelding coming off a second over 1800m at Caulfield on March 19, Group 1 placed in the Queensland Derby last year and 2000m looks ideal here as does barrier four draw and jockey Glen Boss booked for the ride
  • Syreon (Chris Waller) – Nice barrier three starting position for the Flying Spur seven-year-old coming off a game third in the Sky High Stakes beaten just over half a length
  • Lamasery (David Vandye) – Out wide in barrier 12 but this improving Commands four-year-old is still right in the race, won four straight earlier this year including two at Rosehill over 1800m before finishing fourth in the Sky High last start
