Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr‘s Might And Power Stakes winner Globe has officially withdrawn been from the 2025 Ladbrokes Cox Plate field at 9:56am on Thursday morning following veterinary advice leaving just eight remaining runners in the Australasian weight-for-age classic at The Valley.

Racing Victoria vets conducted an inspection and found the gelding to be lame in his off foreleg, prompting immediate action to remove him from the field for Saturday’s Group 1 $6 million Ladbrokes Cox Plate (2040m).
After paying a $200,000 late entry fee following his impressive three-length win over Treasurethe Moment in the Group 1 Might And Power Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on October 11, the Charm Spirit seven-year-old was set to lead the Cox Plate field from barrier 7.
However, Racing Victoria vets ruled him out on Thursday morning after he failed a Sleip Test — a motion analysis used to detect subtle lameness.
Trainer Mick Price confirmed the gelding had an irritation in the off-front fetlock joint and stated, “If that horse is not right, I’m not happy with him, I’m not going to run him”.
“He had to do a Sleip test yesterday, which is a video of their action,” Price told Racing.com yesterday.
“RV contacted ‘Junior’ yesterday and said on half of the Sleip test, the horse wouldn’t pass.
“I’ve contacted the owners and let them know.”
Globe, who remains lightly raced for his age having had 15 starts for six wins, will be sent to the paddock now with an eye on the autumn features including April’s Group 1 $5 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick.
“He’s only had 15 starts and he would be a beautiful Sydney horse in the autumn,” Price added.
Globe’s withdrawal reshapes the race dynamics, removing a likely leader and opening tactical opportunities for rivals like Chris Waller‘s defending champion Via Sistina.
The Cox Plate field now stands at just eight runners, with Via Sistina remaining the hot favourite at $2.15 in markets at race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au to returning to winning form and successfully defend her title after her historic eight-length romp home last year.
Speed map predictions have been thrown wide open with Matt Laurie‘s four-time Group 1 winning mare Treasurethe Moment a new potential pace setter from the inside alley with Damian Lane aboard.
Winner of the VRC Oaks – Australian Oaks double as a filly, the now four-year-old daughter of Alabama Express is at current Cox Plate odds of $5.50 having notably firmed from her opening quote of $9 following Globe’s scratching.
Tony Gollan‘s last start Turnbull Stakes runner-up to Sir Delius, who was withdrawn from the Cox Plate pre-acceptances on vet’s orders and also sent to the paddock ahead of the autumn, Antino is the second favourite at $4.
The 2025 Ladbrokes Cox Plate will close the Moonee Valley race card on Saturday running as Race 10 with a scheduled jump time of 5:40pm (AEDT).
