Jonker Tops 2017 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic Field

A key lead-up into the Restricted Listed $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on the Gold Coast on January 13, this week a field of eight smart youngsters will face off in the Restricted Listed $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1100m).

Capitalist (2015-16) last completed the double and one of the top chances to repeat that feat this season is Spirit Of Boom colt Jonker.

Aaron Bullock retains the ride on the bay galloper after guiding him to an impressive three length victory over 900m on debut at Newcastle in early December.

Jonker will now be out to prove he can handle a tougher grade of rivals and more distance with success at Wyong, also securing his spot near the top of futures Gold Coast Magic Millions Classic betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.

The all-in Magic Millions 2YO Classic odds for next month are led by the undefeated Tony Gollan-trained Ef Troop ($4.80), while Jonker is one of three other runners occupying the second line of the markets at $9.

The other two second fancies are also both engaged in the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic field on Thursday with Bondi for Peter & Paul Snowden returning to racing and the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Terminology making her race debut.

Snitzel colt Bondi hasn’t raced since his second to Performer at Randwick on September 30 in the Listed Breeders Plate (1000m).

He trialled publically at the Wyong track on December 4 putting in a solid effort to run second over 845m and is on track for the Wyong – Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic double according to co-trainer Peter Snowden.

Jockey Blake Shinn rode Bondi on debut and is back in the saddle this week from barrier five in the diminutive eight horse field.

Terminology meanwhile has gate four with Tim Clark booked to ride the highly-spruiked Star Witness filly Terminology.

Terminology may be unraced, but already excitement is building after her two impressive trial wins this season.

The latest saw the filly blitz her rivals by over 10 lengths at Rosehill (900m) on December 8, hit-out form the Tulloch Lodge team are hoping she brings to the races this weekend.

The other gun filly taking on the colts and geldings in the Wyong Magic Millions Classic this year is Lloyd Kennewell’s daughter of I Am Invincible, La Pomme De Pin.

She has raced twice to date including her breakthrough win when charging home by five and a half-lengths in the $200,000 Ballarat Magic Millions 2YO Clockwise Classic (1000m) on November 25.

La Pomme De Pin gets the chance to keep the wins coming on Thursday with Joe Bowditch aboard again from barrier eight, the filly at a current juicy price of $15 to win at the Gold Coast next month.
