2017 VRC Oaks Tips & Odds Update

Twelve of the season’s best young sprinting fillies do battle at Flemington Racecourse today in the Ladies Day feature race, our insider VRC Oaks 2017 betting tips and updated odds on the Cup Carnival clash detailed below.

Aloisia

Aloisia is the hard-to-beat favourite and Races.com.au to salute at an odds-on price in the 2017 VRC Oaks results at Flemington this afternoon. Photo: Ultimate Racing Photos.

The penultimate event on Day 3 of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, this season’s Group 1 $1 million VRC Oaks (2500m) runs as the Kennedy Oaks and there is only one filly the punters want.

Formerly prepared by dual VRC Oaks winning horseman Ciaron Maher, talented Azamour filly Aloisia is now prepared by Aaron Purcell and is $1.55 in the latest VRC Oaks odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.

It’s a short quote but this smart horse is deserving of the price.

She scored an upset Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) win two back before charging home in a dominant staying performance defeating the colts and geldings by a minimum 3.5 lengths in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m) on Ladbrokes Cox Plate Day.

Aloisia will take some beating tipped to be even more effective of an Oaks distance and has Luke Nolen retaining the ride this week.

There are two other single-figure fillies looking to end Aloisia’s spring fairy tale with Pinot ($5.50 out to $6) and Luvaluva ($7 out to $8.50) two last start winners on the drift.

Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott saddle-up beautifully-bred Pierro filly Pinot in barrier six with Stephen Baster aboard, the in-form bay last seen winning Caulfield’s Group 3 Ethereal Stakes (2000m) from a wide barrier (15 of 16) on October 16 by 1.75 lengths.

Luvaluva comes via the traditional Oaks lead-up having won last Saturday’s Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) on Derby Day and represents trainer John Sargent whose filly Kirramosa (2013) was the last Wakeful Stakes – VRC Oaks double winner.

So will the odds-on favourite in VRC Oaks betting salute and is there any value to be found further down the markets from the likes of the beaten Wakeful favourite Bring Me Roses ($21), the always-consistent Rimraam ($17) who doesn’t know how to win but has the dominant place record or Reliable Dame ($17) coming out of the Geelong Classic?

Our 2017 VRC Oaks Trifecta Tip is #1 Aloisia from #2 Luvaluva and #5 Rimraam

1st

#1 Aloisia ($1.55)

There is no value in this year’s VRC Oaks Win Bet with the odds-on favourite too good to ignore. She is a serious racehorse and already a Group 1 winner. The Vase produced Jameka for her win in 2015 and this filly has the Maher training and the ability to replicate that. She was incredible defeating Cliff’s Edge last time out. The form out of the race was franked in the VRC Derby when Pissaro (9.4 lengths back fourth) finished 2.7 lengths off Ace High in the 2500m Group 1 last Saturday. Won’t get beaten and remains better than bank interest.

2nd

#2 Luvaluva ($8.50)

The Wakeful Stakes has produced more Crown Oaks winners than any other lead-up and the from-behind win in that traditional lead-up by this Mastercraftsman filly was impressive. She ran down the frontrunners late and looks like she’ll have no worries stepping up to 2500m. Is firing fit and Sargent knows how to train a VRC Oaks winner having done the double this filly chases in 2013 with Kirramosa. There’s a too-hard-to-beat favourite, but she’s the danger.

3rd

#5 Rimraam ($17)

Nice odds on offer for this ultra-consistent Lindsay Park-trained Commands filly to run a place in the Oaks. She’s had seven starts for seven top three runs and think she can keep that flawless 100% place rate intact today. Two back was second to Pinot in the Ethereal and she also ran in the Wakeful finishing a quarter-length third. Ran down in the final few strides, but good enough to stay in touch again in the Grand Final.
