Eleven gallopers remain in the mix for Randwick Race 8 at 4:45pm (AEST) on Epsom Handicap Day after the early scratching of the widely-drawn Amralah (12) from the Group 1 $750,000 The Metropolitan (2400m).

Updated The Metropolitan betting odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are making it a tough one for punters with half the field under $10 for the win.

Current co-favourites at an equal $5 for the win are the Chris Waller-trained Libran ($5) and his stablemate Antonio Giuseppe, two of the four runners for the stable.

Libran carries 57kg, but the bookies are taking no chances on the proven stayer who has won three of his five starts at the distance and who beat a similar field in the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) a fortnight ago.

Antonio Giuseppe was second past the post in that lead-up and is firming in The Metropolitan odds to go one better stepping up to the mile and a half for the first time since his second in this race last Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.

Below we take a look over the full The Metropolitan Handicap 2017 form guide, betting history and race statistics to sort the genuine contenders from the pretenders in a wide open edition of the race.

Antonio Giuseppe is out to go one better than his second in last year’s The Metropolitan results
