Lindsay Park’s Golden Rose Stakes-bound filly Formality takes her next step towards the Group 1 with a second-up run in the Furious Stakes 2017 at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
A key feature of Chelmsford Stakes Day on the weekend in Sydney, headlined by the latest Winx assignment, this season’s Group 2 $200,000 Furious Stakes (1200m) attracted 13 three-year-old fillies at early entry stage on Monday.
The Furious Stakes 2017 nominations have been extended until Tuesday morning but of the current hopefuls last start Silver Shadow Stakes winner Formality is a stand out.
The consistent daughter of Fastnet Rock, third in the autumn’s Group 1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in Melbourne, took her record to three wins from six starts when kicking off her spring at Randwick on August 19.
There she won the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) and she will be hard to beat returning to the same track and distance fitter for the run on the weekend.
The Group 1 $1 million Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 23 is a confirmed target for Formality who is currently only rated a $21 chance for the event through Ladbrokes.com.au.
Silver Shadow Stakes runner-up Alizee and third placed Champagne Cuddles are both also nominated for a rematch with their last start conqueror in the Furious Stakes.
The James Cummings-trained, Godolphin-raced Sepoy filly Alizee is a dual Group 2 runner-up who is out to go one better on Saturday posting her maiden black-type victory.
Champagne Cuddles meanwhile is prepared by Bjorn Baker and after winning on debut at Randwick last October as well as a 1000m sprint at the same track this June, she suffered her first defeat when third in the Silver Shadow beaten only a quarter-length in the blanket finish.
Another standout Furious Stakes nominated filly this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival is the John Thompson-trained One More Honey.
One of the best tried in the mix, the daughter of Onemorenomore chases her first victory since taking out the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) in the wet back in late February as a $21 roughie.
She was tested in Group 1 company twice at Randwick during the autumn, including her brave fifth to The Mission in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) over the mile.
One More Honey kicked off her three-year-old campaign in the Silver Shadow Stakes running just under two lengths back for fourth and should be improved heading into the weekend.
Also among the entries are Sepoy filly Acqume coming off a 1200m Gosford win after her third to Alizee at Warwick Farm a month ago and the Kris Lees-trained Whispered Secret.
An improving daughter of High Chaparral, Whispered Secret is best known for her third in the Champagne Stakes on April 15.
That followed her Listed Fernhill Handicap (1600m) win at the same track and distance during ‘The Championships’.
Whispered Secret has trialled twice ahead of her new season return and will improve on whatever she does this Saturday.
