Fuhryk Favourite in 2017 Proud Miss Stakes Field & Betting

The David & Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained filly Fuhryk is the firming favourite in Proud Miss Stakes 2017 betting to take out the Group 3 sprint at Morphettville this Saturday in Adelaide.

A near capacity field of 18 fillies and mares, excluding early scratching Summer Glen (17), will take to the track in Morphettville Race 8 at 4:55pm (ACST) on The Goodwood Day for this year’s $175,000 Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m).

Heading the current Proud Miss Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au on the event is Star Witness three-year-old Fuhryk ($3.80 into $3.30) who represents the Lindsay Park operation.

Despite being drawn out wide in barrier 14, the bookies have the young filly as the one to beat on Saturday with Craig Williams retaining the ride for her second run at the track.

A winner of four of her eight career starts to date, Fuhryk was last seen crossing only a neck back behind Sweet Sherry in open company in the Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on May 6.

She returns to the same track and distance on Saturday and the money is rolling in for her to show up the older mares.

Close second elect in Proud Miss Stakes betting this Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival is Ravi ($4.40) drawn better in barrier six.

Dwayne Dunn is booked to ride the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained four-year-old Redoute’s Choice mare third-up on Saturday.

Ravi was under three lengths beaten by Secret Agenda two back in Randwick’s Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) when fourth, before finishing ninth behind the same winner in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) two weeks ago.

That lead-up Group 1 at Morphettville saw Ravi beaten under three and a half lengths as a $20 outsider in betting and she’ll appreciate a better draw against easier company on the weekend.

Despite the big Proud Miss Stakes field there are no other hopefuls under $10 for the win, meaning there could be value galore for the Adelaide punters.

Of the longer priced fancies those with claims at the upset include the rails-drawn Miss Gunpowder ($12) who is a stablemate of the favourite out to improve on a Robert Sangster 12th, the Robert Smerdon-trained English import Now Or Later ($11) having just her second start down under drawn gate four and Samara Dancer ($11).

The local Phillip Stokes-trained Samara Dancer is drawn wide out in gate 16 this weekend, but she has Noel Callow riding and will be fitter second-up.

She had her first run since last Melbourne Cup Day at Morphettville just last Saturday and was far from disgraced under 60.5kg when a length beaten for second to Mulder over 1050m in a Benchmark 70.

This is tougher class, but the three-year-old Hinchinbrook filly did a good job from out wide and if she handles the short turnaround will relish coming back to 56.5kg for this.
