A quality field of new season three-year-olds take to the Rosehill track on Saturday for the 2025 San Domenico Stakes where Chris Waller‘s returning Golden Slipper runner-up Wodeton will kick off his spring campaign.

The classy son of Wootton Bassett has already amassed over $1 million in stakes ahead of his first-up run of the spring in the Group 3 $250,000 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) on the weekend in Sydney.

The San Domenico is a key springboard for the upcoming features, and an event won in recent years by the likes of Japonisme, Star Turn, Anders and Storm Boy.

Wodeton sits as the current $3.10 second favourite in San Domenico Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au this season racing for the first time since his brave fourth win under a length off Vinrock in the Group 1 Inglis Sires’ (1400m) back in April.

That followed his eye-catching Group 1 Golden Slipper second behind Marhoona, and with previous winning form fresh, he looks a standout chance to break through for his maiden Black-Type success this weekend.

The San Domenico is a key early lead-up for runners on their way to the Group 1 $1 million Golden Rose (1400m) back at the track on September 27.

Wodeton is at a current $7 all-in quote in Golden Rose betting at Ladbrokes.com.au, a price sure to firm should he come out and win on Saturday.

The now favourite and big danger to stop Wodeton first-up in the San Domenico odds is Raging Force for master trainer of young horses, Peter Snowden.

Raging Force has surpassed the Slipper placegetter at the top of markets into $2.50 and is the early mover that the punters are coming for.

Raging Force is the San Domenico Stakes favourite and market mover for the event's two-time winning trainer Peter Snowden!

Snowden chases his third win in the event since 2009 and his first since preparing Pariah for his 2017 win in partnership with son Paul.

Cosmic Force gelding Raging Force is in flying form and has the fitness edge racing third-up and chasing his fourth win on the trot.

Saturday sees him up notably in grade following back-to-back winter wins in easier company, but he looks deserving of a shot after he carted 59kg to victory in a 2YO handicap at this track and trip to win by over two lengths last time out on July 5.

Two other potential spring contenders are also currently under $10 in the markets with the rails-drawn Rivellino ($7) for trainer Kris Lees and Team Hawkes‘ 58.5kg top-weight Devil Night ($9).

Too Darn Hot colt Rivellino won his opening three career starts including the lucrative $2 million Inglis Millennium and the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1400m) at Randwick last March.

His Golden Slipper fourth when only 2.4 lengths beaten by the winner was brave, while his latest run saw him place fifth in a blanket finish under a length off Vinrock in the Inglis Sires’.

He is more than capable at this level and reunites with his Skyline winning hoop Jason Collett this weekend.

Extreme Choice colt Devil Night meanwhile has the hefty kilos to overcome fresh with the returning Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes champion last seen running fifth in the Slipper.

While he was classy as a juvenile, the Blue Diamond winners don’t always come back as strong three-year-olds and his ability the Sydney way of racing a bit of a question.

The 2025 San Domenico Stakes is scheduled to run as Rosehill Race 8 at 3:50pm (AEST).
