All the major money for Saturday’s Randwick Guineas 2024 in Sydney is landing on a return to Group 1 winning form by the Chris Waller-trained Militarize.
Punters are in for a stellar edition of the time-honoured Group 1 $1 million Randwick Guineas (1600m) with 11 top three-year-old mile types making up the field.
Heading the line-up and latest Randwick Guineas odds online at $2.35 through Ladbrokes.com.au is Waller’s three-time Group 1 champ Militarize in gate four with James McDonald to ride.
Waller chases his second Randwick Guineas triumph after a 2019 victory with The Autumn Sun and looks to have just the horse to do it this weekend.
Kiwi-bred like his trainer, Dundeel colt Militarize secured the Inglis Sires’ – Champagne Stakes double as a two-year-old and was back in the spring to claim the Golden Rose Stakes at Rosehill.
He returned on February 17 to run second to his class stablemate Fangirl in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) and is second-up back against his own age in the Randwick Guineas.
With a top Randwick record (4:2-1-1) and a proven elite level winner at the course and distance, Militarize is a deserving and hard to beat favourite.
The danger occupying the second line of Randwick Guineas betting this autumn is Les Bridge’s early market mover Celestial Legend ($4.20) in the outside alley.
Kerrin McEvoy continues associations on the striking grey Dundeel colt who is third-up and fit coming into the Randwick Guineas a last start winner.
He saluted by nearly two lengths in Rosehill’s Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) a fortnight back and is now out to do the double for the first time since the aforementioned Waller-trained The Autumn Sun (2019).
Two other runners are under double-figures for the win with the James Cummings-trained Tom Kitten ($6.50) out to return to his best and the Gary Portelli-trained Encap ($9) gaining momentum at the right time.
Tom Kitten will be ridden by Nash Rawiller from gate eight third-up with the Harry Angel colt chasing his first win since the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) here last October.
He has had two unplaced lead-ups most recently when fifth in the Hobartville but will relish a step-up to a mile here.
Encap meanwhile presents a value hope with genuine claims after the Capitalist gelding’s eye-catching two runs this time in.
The spring’s Golden Rose runner-up was third fresh in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) and then second in the Hobartville with improvement expected here.
Les Vampires meanwhile shapes up as the best of the rest at $15 in gate two for Adam Hyeronimus to ride with the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Pierro colt out to improve on his Hobartville third.
The Randwick Guineas 2024 is scheduled as Randwick Race 8 at 4:35pm (AEDT) on a 10-race Saturday card and full markets from Ladbrokes.com.au are available by clicking here.
