The weather has finally cleared in the sunshine state’s capital, there’s sunny skies forecast all day in Brisbane, and we’ve got an ideal Good (4) Eagle Farm track rating.
Eagle Farm racing gets underway at 11:08am (AEST) with the rescheduled Group 2 $250,000 The Roses (2100m) featuring a capacity line-up of Queensland Oaks-bound fillies led in betting by Australasian Oaks runner-up Barb Raider.
The first of three $1 million races on the card is scheduled as Race 4 at 12:53pm (AEST) with the two-year-old JJ Atkins-bound juveniles running in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) where Resonator from the Waterhouse/ Bott stable is favourite.
Next-up the Brisbane race fans finally get to see Zaaki in the flesh with last year’s seven-length hero returning to defend his title in the rescheduled Group 1 $1 million Doomben Cup, held over 2100m at 1:28pm (AEST).
Also rescheduled from the cancelled Doomben Cup Day meeting and now running as Race 7 at 2:38pm (AEST) this afternoon is the Group 3 $250,000 BRC Sprint (1300m) where #4 I Am Superman (20) and #8 Scallopini (16) have been scratched.
The meeting’s namesake event is set to run as Race 8 at 3:18pm (AEST) with a full field of three-year-olds engaged in the Group 1 $1 million Queensland Derby (2400m) including Rough Habit Plate winner, Dark Destroyer, who jumps favourite from the inside alley.
The third and final elite level on the card is then the Group 1 $700,000 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) running as the penultimate event, Race 9 at 3:58pm (AEST).
Doomben 10,000 place-getters Entriviere (3rd) and Paulele (2nd) headline the Kingsford-Smith Cup betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, and #10 Sierra Sue (20) is the notable withdrawal having come out through the week due to an elevated temperature.
