Day 2 of ‘The Championships’ in Sydney and the weather gods have again smiled upon Randwick Racecourse, the track a Good (4) rating that will remain across the card with a partly cloudy day without a chance of rain ahead.
The Sydney racing kicks off at 11:25pm (AEST) and the bumper 10 race card continues through until the fillies and mares face of in the Group 2 $300,000 Sapphire Stakes (1200m).
Of course the event everyone is waiting for this afternoon is the Winx race at 3:05pm (AEST), Chris Waller’s flawless mare chasing her 25th win on the trot to equal the streak of Black Caviar when taking on nine rivals in the Group 1 $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m).
Along with Winx running in Race 7 this afternoon at a short $1.18 in betting at Ladbrokes.com.au, there are three other elite level features for punters to sink their teeth into.
The first is the 2018 Australian Oaks (Race 6) featuring the full 13 original acceptors led in betting by Winx’s younger stablemate Unforgotten ($4.60).
After Winx chases her 18th Group 1 turf triumph, the stayers do battle in the 2018 Sydney Cup (3200m) where the mares Fanatic and Single Gaze have both been scratched along with the Darren Weir-trained Gallic Chieftain.
Group 1 racing this afternoon comes to a close with the 2018 Coolmore Legacy Stakes (Race 9) – formerly the Queen Of The Turf Stakes – where 17 hopefuls led by the Ron Quinton-trained Dixie Blossoms ($5) face off.
