A small but class field of three-year-olds face off in Saturday’s 2018 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint, betting tips and updated odds on the Royal Randwick showdown found below.

Running as the fifth on Day 2 of ‘The Championships’, the line-up for this autumn’s Group 2 $600,000 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m) is down to nine with the early withdrawal of Isaurian (6).

The powerhouse Godolphin stable are still represented in the field however by the early favourite in Arrowfield 3YO Sprint betting at Ladbrokes.com.au, Viridine at $3.20 to salute with Hugh Bowman aboard.

Bowman comes on the Poet’s Voice colt for the first time in place of Brenton Avdulla, Viridine looking for his first win since saluting in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes at this track and distance last October.

His latest run saw him finish only one and half-lengths third to In Her Time when taking on the older sprinters in Rosehill’s Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) and third-up over the 1200m (3:2-0-0) back at Randwick fit and firing he shapes-up as a hard-to-beat favourite.

There are plenty of dangers in the Arrowfield 3YO Sprint odds this autumn with a further four single-figure hopefuls including I Am Excited ($4.40) after a fourth win on the trot and the market mover Houtzen ($11 into $7.50) who return to winning form last weekend.

1^st

#1 Viridine ($3.20)

Sticking with the James Cummings-trained favourite Viridine who is down in grade and back against his own kind third-up after a third in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m). Carried a lightweight that day, but handles these kilos in a field of fellow 3YOs. Two-form-three and Randwick and back here for the first time since the fourth to Redzel in the Challenge Stakes. Finally gets 1200m this season and is two-from-three over the distance, including the two length win here in the Roman Consul over the spring. Back don’t sack.

2^nd

#2 Showtime ($13)

Great value to be found outside the favourite all through this field. The Team Hawkes-trained Showtime looks overs with great 1200m form (4:1-2-0). He drops to the distance for the first time since his Expressway Stakes second to Trapeze Artist first-up in early February. That form was franked with the winner taking out last weekend’s TJ Smith Stakes by two lengths over Redzel. Showtime meanwhile ran seventh in the Group 1 Canterbury stakes (1300m) last start to Happy Clapper. Freshened-up since, better over less distance back to a field of 3YOs.

#6 She Will Reign ($13)

Golden Slipper winner from 2017, this Gary Portelli-trained filly won first-up in the Inglis Sprint at Warwick Farm before unplaced runs in the Oakleigh Plate (10^th) and William Reid Stakes (8^th) against open-age fields in Melbourne. She is better in Sydney and back at Randwick now, a dual Group 1 winner and can improve at a price.
