Victoria Derby Day on Saturday kicks off the Melbourne Cup Carnival and a key support act on the bumper card is the Group 1 $1 million Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m).

Twenty-two three-year-old sprinters make-up the early entries for the set weights clash including a host of last start winners.

Three youngsters are currently installed as the equal $6 favourites in all-in Coolmore Stud Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au, including the James Cummings-trained Viridine.

The son of Poet’s Voice is unraced in Melbourne, but his lead-up Sydney form has been outstanding.

A winner of back-to-back Randwick races this time in, Viridine was last seen defeating Single Bullet by two lengths in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) on October 7.

The other top fancies at the same quote are Invincible Star and Jukebox.

Invincible Star is the best supported filly to beat home the colts and geldings in the Coolmore Stud Stakes results since Nechita (2012).

Prepared by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, the daughter of I Am Invincible comes off a Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) win that caught the eye at Caulfield on October 14.

She beat her closest rival Counterplay home by four lengths that day after jumping from barrier 15 of 16 and is also proven down the Flemington straight having saluted in the Group 3 Ottawa Stakes (1000m) last Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Jukebox also remains a livewire chance according to early markets, the son of Snitzel having finished second in his two past starts behind the Lindsay Park-trained fillies Catchy (Danehill Stakes) and Formality (Blue Sapphire Stakes).

Along with Invincible Star there are a further five fillies nominated for the Coolmore Stud Stakes in 2017 including the aforementioned stablemates Catchy and Formality.

Winner of the autumn’s Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m), Fastnet Rock filly Catchy also took out the Danehill Stakes down the Flemington straight earlier this prep before back-to-back Caulfield thirds.

The latest was an outstanding effort against the boys, when finishing off the trifecta behind $101 winner Mighty Boss in the Group 1 Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

She drops notably in distance for the weekend, but is two-from-three over 1200m.

Formality has won three of her four starts this campaign with a Golden Rose flop over 1400m (11th) her only blemish.

Dropping back to 1200m last start she thrived winning the Group 3 Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) and returns to elite level company for her first Flemington start if accepted for the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Lindsay Park also have Tulip in the mix, giving the stable three possible fillies in the Coolmore Stud Stakes field.

Other standout entries include Toby Edmonds’ filly Houtzen looking to improve on her credible seventh in the $10 million The Everest (1200m) against a star-studded open-age field and Merchant Navy last seen finishing 10th in Sydney’s Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes on September 23.
