2017 The Everest Field Confirmed

All 12 spots for the inaugural $10 million The Everest 2017 field have now been filled after the final slot-holders announced their runners over the long weekend.

Clearly Innocent

Due to steal the show in Sydney at Royal Randwick Racecourse on October 14, the Restricted The Everest (1200m) line-up has been rounded out by the Kris Lees-trained Clearly Innocent and Tulip who is the third Lindsay Park-trained horse in the race.

Six-year-old Clearly Innocent is a $13 shot in updated The Everest odds at Ladbrokes.com.au after his eye-catching first-up third behind In Her Time in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) on Epsom Handicap Day.

The son of Not A Single Doubt races for Damion Flower and defeated plenty of fellow The Everest horses in the race including one-time favourite Chautauqua who flashed home late for sixth.

Clearly Innocent chases his first win since saluting on a mud Eagle Farm track over the winter in the Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) and has a consistent second-up record (4-2-1-0) heading into The Everest.

Hugh Bowman, of Winx fame, is confirmed to ride Clearly Innocent Saturday week.

Tulip meanwhile is the third three-year-old filly in the $10 million feature along with the now favourite She Will Reign and the Toby Edmonds-trained Houtzen who won the Group 3 Champagne Stakes (1200m) against her own kind at Moonee Valley last Friday night.

The daughter of Pierro has had two runs this time in, her latest a fourth behind subsequent Flight Stakes winner Alizee at Randwick in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m).

She was five lengths off the Gary Portelli-trained She Will Reign as a two-year-old in the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) in the autumn and hasn’t won since the Group 3 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) leading-up to that at Rosehill on March 11.

Tulip is the second longest-priced runner in The Everest racing odds paying $41 and races for Coolmore.

“It’s going to be a hugely competitive race, a great spectacle and we are delighted to be a part of it,” Coolmore Australia’s Tom Magnier told Racing NSW.

She joins Group 1 winning stablemates Vega Magic and Redkirk Warrior in The Everest field.

As mentioned, She Will Reign has shot to the top of The Everest betting at $4.60 after the Manhattan Rain filly’s eye-catching win under the lights at The Valley on Friday night in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m).

Corey Brown is down to replace Kerrin McEvoy in The Everest, the latter the confirmed jockey aboard rival Redzel.

Peter & Paul Snowden’s smart Snitzel five-year-old Redzel is one of the genuine dangers, the $7.50 shot trialling at Rosehill over 1000m at Tuesday morning in his first public appearance since winning the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) on September 16.

The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained mare English also put in a lovely The Everest trial in the Premiere Stakes on Saturday with her outstanding second, which had Waterhouse singing the five-year-old plenty of praise.

“I’m over the moon, when you give all those lengths away it is so hard to win,” Waterhouse said after watching English work her way home from second last.

“If she wins the Everest there’ll absolutely be a special performance, I’ll sing and dance.”
