Thirteen sprinters have been confirmed in the final field for Friday night’s featured Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley Racecourse; highlighted by the inclusion of several previous winners at the highest level of racing.

Sheidel has arguably returned to racing in career-best form this year and is one of only two mares, along with Silent Sedition, confirmed in the 2017 William Reid Stakes field.

A former Perth galloper, Sheidel posted a number of excellent results through the recent Spring Carnival including consecutive wins in the Group 3 Cape Grim Beef Steaks (1200m) and Group 3 Sensis Stakes (1100m) and finished the year second in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m).

Resuming this time for a maiden Group 1 win in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m), Sheidel ran a credible fourth in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) last time out and should relish a return to racing on a bend.

Silent Sedition will be stepping back in distance and stepping up in class, but she is more than capable of winning the William Reid Stakes and will carry only 56.5kgs.

Running second in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) first-up on February 11^th, the War Chant mare returned to winning form in the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) before placing second behind Heavens Above in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) a fortnight ago.

Rebel Dane is a proven performer at Moonee Valley and will make his competitive return on Friday night after being confirmed in the 2017 William Reid Stakes field.

Posting his first win at the highest level in the 2013 edition of the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m), Rebel Dane continued to produce strong results through subsequent seasons, but was unable to post another elusive win at the highest level for more than three years.

The California Dane entire ran second in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) and third behind Winx and Hartnell in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) upon resuming in spring, but could only manage mid-pack finishes in each of the Group 2 Theo Mark Stakes (1300m) and Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m).

Rated little chance of success in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m), Rebel Dane took advantage of his rivals playing tactics and stormed clear; winning the race with ease.

While failing to fire in the Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m), Rebel Dane will leave from a good draw in the William Reid Stakes and will be partnered by Ben Melham.

West Australian raider Rock Magic has drawn into the 2017 William Reid Stakes field favourably in barrier 6, while in-form sprinter Kuro has been charged with overcoming the outside barrier.

Three-year-old Star Turn will carry a race-low 56kgs, will be partnered by Dwayne Dunn and could very well receive the run of the race in the William Reid Stakes from barrier 3.
