There are twelve young hopefuls looking to stake their Australian Derby claims at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday in the $600,000 Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m), which is set to run as Race 6 at 3:25pm (AEDT).

Current Rosehill Guineas betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au are all about the last start Randwick Guineas winner Inference ($3.20) who has the right form for this and handles a mud track.

The Group 1 win last start on a Heavy course was a big plus going into this and the Hawkes Racing-trained So You Think colt should enjoy the step up in distance having run third in the Victoria Derby last season.

There are some genuine threats in the Rosehill Guineas odds however including the Victoria Derby winner Prized Icon ($6) coming off an Australian Guineas second and the flying Kiwi raider Gingernuts ($6) out to frank the New Zealand three-years-old form.

#2 Gingernuts ($6)

New Zealand-trained horses have won this race three times in the past six years and that’s pretty imposing. This Kiwi visitor is absolutely flying having won his past three on the trot back home. Latest two weeks ago was in the Group 1 NZ Derby (2400m) and he comes back in distance for this out to win off a run in that race in the same fashion as Volkstok’n’barrell (2^nd in 2015). Did it tough from a wide alley in the Derby and gets a gun run from barrier two with regular rider Opie Bosson in Sydney for the ride. Yet to officially race on Heavy going, but those from across the Tasman usually swim. Can give the locals a shake-up.

#4 Inference ($3.20)

Plenty of money coming in for the favourite who is out to complete the Randwick – Rosehill Guineas double for the first time since It’s A Dundeel (2013) – a New Zealander. Was impressive on the bottomless track last time out so the likely similar conditions this weekend will suit. Will get further proven by the Vic Derby third in the spring and looks a livewire chance to go back-to-back for the favourites in this race.

#8 Sizzling Bullet ($16)

Looking for a proven mudlark at a nice price? This is your horse. Chris Waller trains and his horses are always worth a look at in Sydney. The Snitzel colt is right up in class, but deserves a shot after successive Randwick wins over 1800m and 2000m respectively this campaign. Has a four week break between runs, but is right in the mix with the weather undefeated on Slow (2-2-0-0) and proven on Heavy (2-1-0-0).
