Undefeated Sydney youngster Winning Rupert remains in Brisbane this weekend chasing successive Queensland wins in the Gold Edition Plate 2016.
Nominations for Saturday’s $100,000 Listed Delfina’s Bistro Gold Edition Plate (1200m) attracted 15 hopeful three-year-olds at early entry stage on Monday including the Bjorn Baker-trained Winning Rupert.
The Written Tycoon colt has won all three of his starts to date and despite being trained at Warwick Farm in Sydney, has had all career runs in Queensland so far.
He is best known for his Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) win at Doomben in mid-May over the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival and was last seen winning a set weights race for three-year-old colts and geldings over the distance at Eagle Farm first-up on December 3.
Winning Rupert blitzed his first-up run by nearly five lengths as the odds-on favourite and is sure to start at the top of the Gold Edition Plate betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au to continue his flawless form on the weekend if accepted.
The other best out of the same race as Winning Rupert is fourth placegetter Double Superlative who crossed seven lengths off the standout winner.
Kelly Schweida prepares the Turffontein gelding who won over 1350m at Doomben in late October by two and a half lengths before his run at Eagle Farm, the up-and-comer out to close the gap on the favourite this weekend.
The second highest rated three-year-old in the Gold Edition Plate nominations this summer is the Toby Edmonds-trained Sundance from the Gold Coast.
A promising sprinter the son of I Am Invincible won first-up over 1050m at Doomben in late October before a last start third at Eagle Farm on November 19.
He has been freshened-up since and has his fourth run at 1200m this weekend chasing his first top three finish at the distance.
Another galloper on a winning streak in the mix is the Stuart Kendrick-trained Lipsync from the Sunshine Coast, the Snitzel filly chasing her third win on the trot.
She won back-to-back at her home track during November including her latest victory over 1200m in a Class 2.
This weekend Lipsync heads to Doomben for the third time and is looking to continue her nice form in tougher company.
Kendrick has also nominated for Rare Occurrence, the Star Witness filly out to atone for her eighth last weekend at the track and distance behind Eckstein in the Listed Mode Plate (1200m).
Other notable hopes include Barry Lockwood’s returning Written Tycoon filly Miss Kindilan, her nicely-bred stablemate Jadedfox who is a daughter of Foxwedge, the Lloyd Kennewell-trained Adelaide visitor Gold Denari and last start Gold Coast winning All American filly Roses Of Joy.
The official Gold Edition Plate 2016 field and barriers are out on Wednesday followed by betting odds at the home of Odds Boost – Ladbrokes.com.au.
