The in-form Robert & Todd Harvey-trained Tradesman is the notable early market mover in the 2016 Railway Stakes betting markets for the Perth Group 1 this weekend.
A capacity field of 16 milers are set to face off in Saturday’s $1 million Group 1 James Boag’s Premium Railway Stakes (1600m).
Currently five of the runners are under $10 to win in the Railway Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.
It’s a tight top first half of the market with the Grant & Alana Williams-trained mare Perfect Reflection ($5.50) and Chris Waller’s interstate raider Mackintosh ($6.50) battling for favouritism.
There’s been a big move however on Tradesman backed in from $11 to $7.50 to post his second win from three starts this prep.
Locally prepared, the Trade Fair five-year-old enjoyed his maiden Ascot win first-up over 1400m on October 22.
There he defeated Scales Of Justice, Lindsey Smith’s Not A Single Doubt four-year-old franking the form with his Group 3 RJ Peters Stakes (1500m) win at the track last Saturday.
Scales Of Justice is also backing-up in the Railway Stakes and currently pays $9 to post his third win on the trot, Hong Kong’s Douglas Whyte coming aboard for the Group 1 ride.
Tradesman meanwhile raced again on November 5 in the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m).
He carted 59kg in the key Railway Stakes lead-up at weight-for-age and caught the eye with a brave third beaten just three quarters of a length by Perfect Reflection.
This weekend More Than Ready mare Perfect Reflection, winner of last summer’s Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m), carries 54.5kg in the Railway Stakes.
If successful she’ll be the first mare to cart that weight to victory in the race in the past 50 years.
Very well weighted getting in on the 53kg minimum is Tradesman who will relish the drop back in weight and the gun barrier six draw.
Troy Turner continues his association with the consistent galloper and chases his second Railway Stakes winning ride after a previous win aboard El Presidente (2007).
The other horse at single-figures also paying $7.50 to add his name to the list or Railway Stakes winners is the Darren Weir-trained Rageese.
Damian Lane rides the four-year-old son of Street Cry, the stallion last seen winning Flemington’s Group 3 Chatham Stakes (1400m) on Oaks Day.
Most other runners in the markets have eased out over the past few days however there has been a tickle of money for the rails-drawn Heart Starter ($18 into $13).
Chris Parnham rides the stablemate of Perfect Reflection who is another one of the five in the race for owner Bob Peters.
After winning the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) two back the Domesday four-year-old finished fourth in the RJ Peters last weekend and Peters declared he could be the one to win for the stable after the gun barrier draw.
