Beautiful Romance is one of two runners for Saeed Bin Suroor in the Melbourne Cup field, and the leading Godolphin trainer believes the mare has the ability to claim the international racing body’s first ever crown in the feature race at Flemington on Tuesday afternoon.
Beautiful Romance has been a strong and consistent performer for Bin Suroor through her entire racing career so far; posting three wins and as many minors through only ten competitive starts, since first appearing on course during the late stages of 2014.
Bin Suroor has been thrilled with the condition of the New Approach mare since she arrived in Australia and he is confident that her light weighting and her drawing into the Melbourne Cup field on the rails will go a long way towards a strong finish on Tuesday afternoon.
“She’s doing really well,” Bin Suroor said.
“She’s a Group 2 winner at York in England and is doing really well.
“We have finished second here three times in the past and this filly is in good form, we just need to see them handy in the race.
“If we win it, it would be a great result for Godolphin and for racing, and for Melbourne Cups here.
“In the past it’s been great to see our horses run second three times, but this time we’re looking forward to seeing them run better even.”
Beautiful Romance immediately stamped herself as a filly to follow when she mustered a strong performance to win the Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (1600m) at Doncaster on debut in October 2014, but was immediately returned to the paddock with a view towards major black type targets in 2015.
Winner of the Listed August Stakes (2336m) and running third in the Group 1 Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (2414m) most notably through four starts in 2015, Beautiful Romance resumed this year for a career-best win in the Group 2 Middleton Stakes (2092m) at York on May 12th.
Progressing to fifth in each of the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes (2414m) and Group 1 Qatar Nassau Stakes (1986m), the mare out of Mazuna was last seen running on for third in the Listed Harvest Stakes (2414m) on September 23rd.
