Eagle Farm Cup Odds and Betting Update

Only eight stayers will line up for Saturday’s Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) in Brisbane; representing particularly good value to punters from a betting point of view and offering plenty of opportunities to place a winning wager.

Kiwi raider Volkstok’N’Barrell has returned to racing in typically smart form this time and remains outright $2.60 favourite in 2016 Eagle Farm Cup betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

Posting eight wins and a further five minors through twenty-one career starts, Volkstok’N’Barrell announced himself to the Australian racing community with a strong performance for success in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) during the 2015 Autumn Carnival.

Unable to make much of an impact upon returning to Australian shores in spring, the Tavistock gelding resuming in New Zealand this year for sixth in the Group 1 NRM Sprint (1400m) before taking out each of the Group 1 Haunui Farm Classic (1600m) and Group 1 New Zealand Stakes (2000m).

While failing to handle the heavy going in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) upon returning to Australian in April, Volkstok’N’Barrell ran on for third in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) on May 7th before placing fourth in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) a fortnight ago.

Maurus can continued to receive steady support in 2016 Eagle Farm Cup betting markets, and has firmed into outright $3.40 second-favouritism.

Claiming five race wins and seven minors through sixteen career starts, Maurus resumed this time with a pleasing performance for second in the Ranvet BM92 (1500m) on February 20th.

Progressing to third in the Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m) on March 5th, the Medicean gelding returned to winning form in the Windsor Management Insurance Brokers Handicap (2200m) on April 30th before placing fifth in the Doomben Cup last time.

Drawn well in barrier 5, Maurus is sure to receive a gem of a ride by leading jockey Blake Shinn in the Eagle Farm Cup.

Puccini has interestingly drifted in 2016 Eagle Farm betting markets, but remains sole occupant of the second line at generous $5.50 odds.

A Group 1 winner having taken out the 2014 edition of the New Zealand Derby (2400m), Puccini has posted a number of good results since transferring to the care of Darren Weir, between a few forgettable performances.

Placing fourth in each of the Group 3 Easter Cup (2000m) and Listed Mornington Cup (2400m), the Encosta De Lago entire failed to beat a single runner home in the Hollindale Stakes on May 7th.

Charging home for second in the Group 3 Premier’s Cup (2200m) last weekend, Puccini could receive the run of the race in the Eagle Farm Cup from barrier 1, and will be partnered by Kerrin McEvoy.
