I Love It Heads 2016 Proud Miss Stakes

The John Salanitri-trained Robert Sangster Stakes placegetter I Love It heads a bumper field of fillies and mares facing off in Adelaide on Saturday in the Proud Miss Stakes 2016 on The Goodwood Day.

Set to run one event before the meeting’s Group 1 feature, the $120,000 Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) jumps as Morphettville Race 6 at 3:45pm (local) and has 17 runners this Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival.

At the top of the line-up with Stephen Baster riding from barrier seven is smart Artie Schiller five-year-old I Love It, a Group 3 winner in Tasmanian two back before her brave third when only 1.4 lengths off Precious Gem in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m).

The Robert Sangster on May 7 was I Love It’s fourth run at Morphettville where she returns on the weekend looking for her maiden win at the track and to improve on her ninth in last year’s Proud Miss Stakes.

Also out of the Robert Sangster Stakes is the fifth-placed Tuscan Sling for Darren Weir, jockey Brad Rawiller retaining the ride on the Danehill Dancer mare this Saturday in the easier Morphettville assignment.

The Robert Sangster was the first run out of the money over 1200m for Tuscan Sling who jumps from gate nine in the Proud Miss.

Also coming off a brave run at the track is the Mick Price-trained Not A Single Doubt three-year-old Secret Agenda, the filly finishing only 1.4 lengths away fourth to The Goodwood fancy Faatinah in the Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) a fortnight ago.

The Group 1 performed Secret Agenda was good against the boys in that run, which followed an also eye-catching run for second behind Two Blue in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) in Sydney on April 9.

Another smart filly in the race taking on the older mares is the Robert Smerdon-trained Group 2 winner over the mile at Moonee Valley last Cox Plate Day My Poppette who comes off a third at Caulfield carrying 60kg.

She drops back to 56.5kg second-up on the weekend, but is drawn wide in the outside alley (17 of 17) for jockey Mark Zahra to overcome.

There are two last start winners in the Proud Miss Stakes field this season with the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Snitzel five-year-old Kayjay’s Joy coming off a 1100m success at Caulfield late last month and the Nikki Burke-trained Starcraft four-year-old Jinx.

Other notable Proud Miss Stakes acceptors include the local Phillip Stokes-trained Robert Sangster Stakes fifth placed Runway Star who is four-from-eight over the distance and John Hickmott’s dual winner at the track Scratchy Lass.
