2016 Arrowfield Sprint Tips and Betting Preview

Thirteen three-year-olds remain in contention for Saturday’s 2016 Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) on Day 2 of The Championships at Royal Randwick, and the depth of talent confirmed to line up has underlined the race as a particularly lucrative one from a betting standpoint.

Japonisme has returned to racing in typically slick form this time and remains outright $3.10 favourite in Arrowfield Sprint markets at Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Petits Filous ($4.40) and Hellbent ($8.50).

Will Japonisme justify favouritism and win the 2016 Arrowfield Sprint, or will one of his many talented rivals secure an upset?

1st

Japonisme ($3.10)

Group 1 winner Japonisme is undoubtedly the class horse of the 2016 Arrowfield Sprint, has been confirmed to be partnered by Hugh Bowman and will leave from the ideal barrier 7. Posting a number of commendable results in early spring, the Choisir gelding ran third in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) before delivering a handy field a comfortable defeat in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on October 31st. resuming this time for a close third in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m), Japonisme has since placed fifth in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) and third in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m), and will relish a drop back in class and return to three-year-old racing.

2nd

Ghisoni ($11)

Ghisoni has only made a handful of appearances at the races so far but has fast stamped herself as one to watch and will be tough to beat at the conditions of the Arrowfield Sprint. Winning a pair of minor Sydney sprints upon debuting in November, the daughter of Lonhro returned to racing this time for an impressive win in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) on February 27th before running sixth in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 12th. James McDonald will take the ride on the filly in the Arrowfield Sprint, who represents terrific value for money at current odds.

3rd

Petits Filous ($4.40)

Petits Filous has fast stamped herself as one to watch and is sure to lay a great account for herself in the 2016 Arrowfield Sprint with Damien Oliver in the saddle and only 54.5kgs in tow. Taking out two minor sprints with complete ease upon debuting in spring, the daughter of Street Boss made a successful transition to black type racing when taking out the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) on August 15th before repeating the dose in the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1100m). While failing to fire in the Group 1 Moir Stakes, Petits Filous resumed this time for a commanding win in the Jack Elliot Handicap (1100m), carrying 58.5kgs.
