Capitalist at Full Health for Golden Slipper 2016

Capitalist pulled up sore following his return for second in the Group 2 Todman Stakes a fortnight ago, however co-trainer Paul Snowden has revealed the team is thrilled with the talented colt’s condition leading into Saturday’s featured Golden Slipper 2016 (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Undefeated through a standout debut preparation in late spring and summer, Capitalist was sent off a clear $1.20 odds-on favourite to win the tradition Slipper lead-in race first up on March 5th, but failed to produce much of a final straight sprint before finishing close to three lengths off the pace of Kiss And Make Up.

Snowden was pleased with Capitalist’s allocation of gate 2 for the world’s richest race for two-year-olds and said he and co-trainer father Peter Snowden are confident he can return to winning form in the 2016 Golden Slipper.

“He’s 100%. He got vetted this morning by the ATC stewards and was passed with a full bill of health,” Snowden said at Tuesday’s Golden Slipper barrier draw.

“He’s pulled up with a bit of back soreness but certainly reacted well with treatment and he takes his place on Saturday.

“He’s got to be (at his best). It’s a completely different ball game a Slipper, there’s more pressure, more runners and more at stake, so he has to be on his A-game but we’re confident in him.”

Trialling well in the lead-up to his competitive debut, Capitalist immediately stamped himself as a colt to follow when delivering a classy field a resounding three length defeat in the Listed Breeders’ Plate (1000m) at Randwick on October 3rd.

Immediately returned to the paddock for a brief spell and freshen-up, the son of Written Tycoon returned for another comfortably three length success in the Wyong Magic Millions 2.y.o Classic (1100m) on December 17th.

Jumping from the gates well in the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2.y.o Guineas (1200m) on January 9th, Capitalist produced undoubtedly his most impressive performance to hit the line two-and-a-half lengths in the clear of closest rival Nikitas; claiming a handsome $1.2 million winner’s check.

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering Capitalist at generous 2016 Golden Slipper odds of $9 for success or $2.95 to finish in the first three.
