Serene Majesty swoops home to win Thoroughbred Club Stakes

Sydney filly Serene Majesty may have earned herself another run in Melbourne during the Spring Carnival after swooping down the middle of the track to take out the Group 3 $150,000 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield today.

Winning trainer Peter Snowden said that his original plan was to give Serene Majesty just the one run in Melbourne today but with the ease of her win, he will now re-think her program and pick out a suitable race for her over the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

“We will think about it tomorrow. I did only think one run and go home but we will get the benefit of that run today and how easy it was,” Snowden said.

“There is another race for her in Cup week, but we will see how things go.”

Winning rider Kerrin McEvoy settle the Serene Majesty ($11) at the tail of the field after the filly was a little bit slow to leave the barriers.

McEvoy was happy to bide his time with a solid tempo up front and eased Serene Majesty to the middle of the track in the straight before she overwhelmed the leaders to score a comfortable one and a half length win over Secret Agenda ($4.60) with the topweight Harlem River ($4 favourite) a further three quarters of a length back in third spot.

Snowden said that the slow get away played right into the hands of McEvoy who was happy to settle the Fastnet Rock filly well off the pace.

“We were probably blessed in a way. She was a touch slow and she does tend to overdo things a bit early. She got a little bit lost here for the first time,” Snowden said.

“I knew she was going to kick somewhere, just if she switched on quick enough in the straight.”

“Kerrin gave her a reminder coming to the corner, she picked up and geez she was awesome late.”

“I think she is a a good filly at top of the stories. I think she has good talent, she is only lightly raced. Barring one run when she overraced badly, all her other three runs have been very good.”

“I think there is still some upside to her. I do think she is a next time through filly when she fully matures but it was a good grounding today.”

Today’s win was Serene Majesty’s second from four race starts.
