This weekend in Brisbane the season’s top two-year-olds will face off over the Doomben mile in Saturday’s 2015 JJ Atkins, betting tips and selections for the set weights feature found below.

Running as Race 6 at 2:17pm (AEST), this year’s $600,000 Group 1 BMW J.J. Atkins (1600m) features a final field of a dozen hopefuls with the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, who are offering Best Tote or SP + 20% on your winnings for the three Doomben elite levels, led by the Chris Waller-trained Press Statement ($4.40).

Undefeated from his two previous runs to date, the Hinchinbrook colt is one of three in the JJ Atkins field and markets for the season’s leading trainer and will jump from barrier 10 with Tye Angland in the saddle.

Press Statement opened at $5 but the money is coming for the youngster to retain his unbeaten status in his first run outside of Sydney and over further than 1350m.

The next best in JJ Atkins betting are then the Liam Birchley-trained Group 2 winning filly Blueberry Hill ($5) in gate eight with Larry Cassidy in the saddle and Bassett ($6) in barrier two and coming off a winning debut at Caulfield.

So will it be a single figure hope to win the JJ Atkins this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival or is there an upset on the cards from the likes of Waller’s rails-drawn Feast For Eyes ($11) or even Cylinder Beach ($16) in the outside alley and coming off a third behind Look To The Stars in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) from a fortnight ago?

#8 Blueberry Hill ($5)

She’s the form filly in this race and has plenty of ability and class to handle the boys in top company. The local hope, this daughter of Myboycharlie has had five starts for three wins and two seconds and so is yet to finish out of a quinella. That’s good form considering she’s been in Group class the past three times including her Group 2 Champagne Classic win over 1200m here on May 9. Last time out she was runner-up in the BRC Sires’ Produce and if she handles the mile she’ll be hard to hold out.

#2 Press Statement ($4.40)

Waller has three in this race and all three are livewire chances including the race favourite who the punters are coming for. Yet to taste defeat but has had just the two Sydney runs, this is the test. Will probably handle it just fine even from the double digit gate as both the victories were pretty effortless. Plenty of promise now has to bring that little bit extra to the table.

#9 Look To The Stars ($8)

The history shows the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes it the formline to follow into the JJ Atkins over the past decade with six of the subsequent Group 1 winners coming out of the race since 2007. The last to complete the double was Sizzling (2012) and this year the Clarry Conners-trained I Am Invincible filly Look To The Stars is out to be the next. She improved on a 10^th to Blueberry Hill in the Champagne to win the Sires’ this winter by a narrow margin turning the tables on her last start conqueror, and it could come down to the two form fillies again in the JJ.
