This Saturday on the Gold Coast Guy Walter’s talented Sydney mare Streama will stake her Doomben Cup 2014 claims with a run in the $358,000 Group 2 A.D. Hollindale Stakes (1800m).

One of 14 gallopers nominated for this year’s Hollindale Stakes, the smart daughter of Stratum has three Group 1s and is hoping to add to that this Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.
Last seen in the winners’ stall when taking out last September’s George Main Stakes over the Randwick mile, Streama has failed to finish better than fourth in her five runs this year.
After a disappointing run in the Doncaster two back when beaten nearly 15 lengths, the five-year-old improved when fourth behind Diamond Drille in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) on April 19.
She’s down in class then for Saturday’s Hollindale Stakes, her first run in the sunshine state since last year’s Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m).
In that Eagle Farm feature last June she ran a brave second to Red Tracer on the back of a third in Queensland’s richest race, the $1.5 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m).
This season Walter is again eyeing the Brisbane elite levels for the $2 million earner naming the $500,000 Group 1 Doomben Cup (2020m) as a likely assignment for her on May 17.
But first she must handle the Hollindale where she goes over further than a mile for the first time since winning the ATC Oaks as a three-year-old two years back.
“She’ll head up there and run in the Hollindale with one eye on running in the Doomben Cup,” Walter told The Daily Telegraph.
“I think she’ll be very competitive, and she raced the other day [in the Queen Of The Turf] like the 1800m will really suit her.”
On Saturday she’ll be partnered by her Queen Of The Turf jockey Blake Shinn who has opted to stick with her at the Gold Coast over a decent stack of rides at the Hawkesbury Cup meeting on the same day.
The 2014 A.D. Hollindale Stakes field is released on Wednesday morning and will be published right here so stay tuned.
