The first Group race of Caulfield Guineas Day has been run and won with Brisbane visitor Missy Longstocking racing into 2013 Coolmore Stud Stakes contention with her breezy win in the $150,000 Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m).

The Liam Birchley-trained Sequalo filly was a $7,500 bargain buy as a weanling and has now won over half a million in prize money.
“The best part about that is that she doesn’t know how much she costs,” Birchley told TVN after today’s win.
Today’s success was the progressive filly’s eighth victory at start number 11, her second Group success following the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes at Doomben last December, and her third on the trot.
She went out a winner in a stakes race at Eagle Farm during the winter and came back to beat home the older horses at home first-up on September 28.
The winning streak continued today as she bought that winning form to Melbourne proving far too good for a field of fellow three-year-old fillies.
Ridden by Damien Browne Missy Longstocking saluted for the punters having been backed into $3.70 on course after earlier sharing the first line of betting with Cosmic Endeavour.
She found herself caught wide in the early – mid stages of the race however, sitting around fourth behind the leader Mineko who began quickly kicking up to hit the front.
Once on the straight she joined the frontrunners, cantering up to them before hitting the accelerator and leave them behind.
Robert Smerdon’s Flemington stakes winner from last Saturday Anatina tried to go up with her but didn’t have the turn of foot to match the Thoroughbred Club Stakes winner who exerted her class in the end.
On the line Missy Longstocking had three lengths to spare over Anatina, brave in defeat in her first go at the 1200m this time in.
It was a photo for third with back runner Bulbula getting the last minor place in the end.
“I’d love to have another 10 of her she just keeps doing her job she tries very hard,” Birchley said.
“Even though everything didn’t go her way (today) she was still too good.
“She got a little bit lost on the turn but she had the hang of it in the end.”
Eagle Farm-based trainer Birchely confirmed they would now set their sights on the $500,000 Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day, Saturday November 2, early betting for which is led by Chris Waller’s Golden Rose winner Zoustar.
“We’re hoping for the Coolmore,” Birchley said.
“We’ll probably run there, that’s the target at this point.”
