A small but exciting field of nine three-year-olds will face off in the first on Sydney Cup Day at Randwick this Saturday with Guy Walter’s talented Toydini heading the acceptors as they vie for their third Group win on the trot.

Kicking the action off as Randwick Race 1 at 12:25pm (AEST), the $125,000 Group 3 Johnnie Walker Frank Packer Plate (2000m) is one of six Group races at the meeting which is the last major race day of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Drawn in gate six sure-to-be favourite in the Frank Packer Plate odds is Bernardini gelding Toydini who comes off two big Sydney wins.

Second-up they put two and a half lengths on Ninth Legion to win the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) on March 23, improving again last start when relishing the step up to the mile to take out the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Randwick by an impressive four and a half lengths.

Saturday sees Blake Shinn retain the ride on Toydini having ridden them for their two recent victories, the youngster to appreciate the drop back to 56.5kg under set weights after carrying 58.5kg in the Carbine.

Toydini will face a similar field of rivals to that he destroyed last start with Carbine Club Stakes runner-up Hawkspur from the stables of Chris Waller, and fourth placed Honorius also set to back up on Sydney Cup Day.

The other big name Frank Packer Plate acceptor meanwhile is the John O’Shea-trained High Chapparal colt Kingdoms who has come up trumps with barrier two with Craig Williams in the saddle for the first time.

Fourth to star Kiwi It’s A Dundeel in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) last month, Kingdoms was competitive again behind the same 3YO Triple Crown winning galloper last start finishing third in the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) – the drop back in class on Saturday sure to see them thrive.

O’Shea will also be represented in the Frank Packer Plate 2013 field by his Savabeel gelding Sir Denzel out in gate eight who comes off a credible third behind Philippi in the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) on Golden Slipper Day.

Other notable hopes then include Tulloch Stakes fourth placegetter Laser Flash and the Murray Baker-trained Kiwi raider Usainity last seen running second in a Group 3 over 2000m back home on March 30.
