Rekindled Alliance will attempt to mirror his win on debut when he runs in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) at Warwick Farm Racecourse this Saturday.

The horse shocked trainer Paul Messara when he effortlessly won the Barcardi Bar Plate at Canterbury last Wednesday.

“(His last win) was a big surprise,” Messara said.

“He is not a flashy track worker because he is a very relaxed horse.

“His trials were nice but they weren’t anything like his first up run.

“We don’t ask him to do a lot, he is a horse that only does what is asked of him so when Corey pressed the button he hit the line with far more acceleration than I was expecting.”

The trainer is adamant he will not be caught off guard again in the 2011 Up And Coming Stakes this weekend and is instead expecting only the best from the three-year-old Rekindled Alliance.

Messara now hopes to target the Redoute’s Choice colt at the Group 1 Spring Championship Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on October 1, 2011.

“I have had racing like the Spring Champion Stakes in the back of my head all along, up to a mile than then beyond would be his optimum but as he showed the other day he can spring as well,” Messara said.

“I think he can (win on Saturday), I haven’t tested him with 10 day back-ups but he is a horse than can obviously sprint well so it is matter of the track.”

Messara will wait to see if the track improves before running Rekindled Alliance this weekend, with Warwick Farm currently rated as a Heavy 8.

“Horses having the first run on a wet track is a big question mark so I will have to take that into consideration and see how the track looks tomorrow,” he said.

Rekindled Alliance has drawn the widest barrier of ten for this year’s Up And Coming Stakes, but will jump from gate nine after David Payne’s Florentina was scratched from the field.
