2011 Futurity Stakes Nominations – Blue Diamond Stakes Day Races

Blue Diamond Stakes Day 2011 will take place at Caulfield this Saturday February 26 and as part of the exciting racing action three Group 1 showdowns including the $500,000 Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) are set to run.

The 2011 Futurity Stakes has attracted 14 nominations lead by Gai Waterhouse’s glamour mare More Joyous.

Sure to open the clear favourite in Futurity Stakes betting markets at Luxbet, More Than Ready four-year-old More Joyous resumed for the season with a stunning victory in the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) at Randwick on February 12.

Now a winner of 11 of her 15 career starts to date, More Joyous was ultra impressive in her 2 ½ length win over Graceful Anna in the Breeders.

More Joyous will be out to become a triple Group 1 winner on Saturday in the Futurity having won the George Main Stakes and Toorak Handicap back-to-back during the spring last year.

Following More Joyous the next top-rated Futurity Stakes nominee this year is fellow mare Ortensia.

Tony Noonan’s daughter of Testa Rossa backed up from her game fifth in the Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin in December running fourth in the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on January 28.

Most recently Ortensia ran third behind the now retired Typhoon Tracy in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 12 and is sure to have her supporters when she makes her Rosehill debut in the Futurity.

Melbourne Cup winning trainer Mark Kavanagh has entered his weight-for-age star Whobegotyou first-up for the season along with the up-and-coming Fastnet Rock four-year-old We’re Gonna Rock also resuming for the Futurity Stakes on Saturday.

Other notable 2011 Futurity Stakes nominees include:

  • Doubtful Jack (Peter Moody) – Improving Not A Single Doubt four-year-old ran fifth last start in the CF Orr at their first Group 1 assignment.
  • Maluckyday (Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes) – Genuine stayer was the eye-catching Melbourne Cup runner-up last start, resuming for the season in the Futurity where distance may not suit.
  • Masquerader (David Payne) – Has also been nominated for the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes at Rosehill this Saturday.

The 2011 Futurity Stakes final field and barriers will be released on Wednesday and published here at Races.com.au followed by a comprehensive race form guide and betting tips.
