The eighth race on the Crown Oaks Day programme today has been won by Temple Of Boom, who claimed victory in the $150,000 Listed Swisse Vitamins Stakes (1100m) at Flemington.
Despite missing the start, winning jockey Corey Brown stayed calm and didn’t panic, allowing Tony Gollan’s four-year-old gelding Temple Of Boom regain their balance and settle behind them off the pace.
It was a big effort from the Toowoomba galloper, Temple Of Boom having their first start down the Flemington straight and handling it very well, thriving on the Slow track.
The favourite Avenue jumped well and took the lead early with Lee Freedman’s First Command following them up to settle in second.
With 300m to go there was lots of pressure put on the front runner, Avenue overtaken with First Command and Temple Of Boom battling strongly for the lead.
Kicking back and pulling away Temple Of Boom hit the line hard finishing nearly a length in front of Secret Flyer, who had a great run to get into second, with First Command coming in third.
Early leader Avenue wilted and didn’t finish in the money, Falco Star snaring fourth.
You have one last chance to win big at Flemington today with the closing race of the meeting – Race 9 the $100,000 The Grazia Ultimate Style Guide (1600m) – set to take place at 5:10pm (AEDST).
