Impressive filly Crystal Lily further improved her favouritism for the 2010 Golden Rose with a promising jumpout at Flemington last Friday.
The local Stratum filly, co-trained by Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra, had a stunning august campaign that culminated with a win in the premier juvenile’s race in the country, the $3 million Golden Slipper (1200m).
In the lead-up to her historic Golden Slipper victory in April, Crystal Lily took out the Listed Chairman’s Handicap (1100m) at Caulfield in February by an emphatic five lengths, and then went on to win the Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Randwick in March.
Having won four of her seven career starts for over $2.28 million in prizemoney, it is little wonder why Crystal Lily is already the hot favourite to take out the Golden Rose next month.
After winning her 800m barrier trial on Friday, Crystal Lily will resume racing in the Listed Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 14 on JJ Liston Stakes Day.
In other Golden Rose news, premier Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse is expected to have a heavy arsenal of classy runners in the feature.
Squamosa became the seventh horse to earn a 2010 Golden Rose preparation with Waterhouse after the Not A Single Doubt colt won over 1400m at Randwick on Saturday.
Waterhouse also has More Than Ready colt Brightexpectations, consistent Redoute’s Choice gelding Crossbow, Golden Sipper third placegetter More Strawberries, promising Encosta De Lago filly Dal Dal, Memorable Moment and Mutamayez on track for a Golden Rose run.
Held on August 28 at Rosehill, the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) is the richest Sydney Spring Carnival race and gives punters one of the best betting opportunities of the year.
