Queensland-bred horseman Peter Moody has expressed his desire to return to his inaugural state during this year’s Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival so that his turf queen Black Caviar can defend her title in the BTC Cup 2012 and race into the history books yet again…
The BTC Cup is the first Group 1 race held at the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival and attracts a great deal of attention from the best sprinters from around the country. Run over 1200m, the BTC Cup is a weight-for-age race held at Doomben racecourse.

Worth $400,000 in prize money, the BTC Cup is the ideal lead up race for the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) held two weeks later. There has only been one horse that has won the BTC Cup/Doomben 10,000 double; Apache Cat in 2008.
The BTC Cup was originally a Group 3 event until 1986 when it was elevated to Group 2 status. Finally in 2005, it was awarded Group 1 status. Between 1983 and 1990, the BTC Cup was a 1350m sprint race.
