#6 Sister Madly has come from the back of the field to win the 2011 Southern Cross Stakes in race 4 at Randwick today.
Anthony Cumming’s Sister Madly did not jump well out of the barriers and settled second or third last in the field.
The Group 2 field was immediately lead by #2 News Alert and #4 Brilliant Light, with #9 Count Encosta falling to the rear of the field.
$3.90 Favourite #1 Pinwheel began with a nice run on the rail until the home straight when he found himself in a difficult position and couldn’t get out.
Sister Madly moved into the lead at the home turn and broke away from the rest of the field.
Pinwheel found his run too close to home and couldn’t run down the Redoute’s Choice mare and finished a length and a half behind in second.
#8 Cardinal Virtue ran home with lightning speed from the back of the field to claim third.
Sister Madly had a disappointing last prep when she failed to win any of her races and only manageing to place once.
Anthony Cummings now plans to aim his mare at the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes at Randwick on April 9 and the Group 1 All-Aged Stakes on Sydney Cup Day on April 23.
