2009 Hong Kong Cup Preview

The highlight of thoroughbred racing this weekend is without doubt the Hong Kong International Raceday at Sha Tin racecourse where the focus will be on the four elite Group 1 races being run, headlined by the final leg in the World Series Racing Championship, the Hong Kong Cup (2000m).

The most lucrative and highly anticipated race of Sunday?s meeting, this year?s Hong Kong Cup features 10 of the world?s premier horses all vying for their share in the HK$20 million prizemoney.

The John Moore-trained Collection is sitting as the favourite at $2.80, followed closely by Presvis at $3.50 leading the British contingent, with the next shortest priced entry being the triple Group 1 winner Vision d?Etat from France at $6.

Last year?s Hong Kong Cup champion Eagle Mountain, trained Mike de Kock, is back to defend the title, currently sitting at $8.

Another one to keep an eye on is the classy filly Ashalanda from France. The Alain de Royer Dupre-trained three-year-old is making her Group 1 debut but has proven she has the quality to mix it with the quality field after flying in a number of Group 2 victories.

If you want to get in on the action of the Hong Kong International Raceday and place a bet on the Hong Kong Cup, jump online to Sportsbet.com.au. They are one of Australia?s premier online bookmakers and have a comprehensive range of wagering options available on all the Group 1 Hong Kong events for this Sunday.
