The following year Shamus Award (2013) backed-up from a third in the Caulfield Guineas results to break his maiden status in the Cox Plate.
There have been a host of notable Caulfield Guineas winners over the years, the race known as a stallion-making event boosting the Caulfield Guineas champions’ future value at stud. Plenty of past Caulfield Guineas winners went on to dominate Group 1 racing including Weekend Hussler (2007) who enjoyed a total of six future Group 1 race wins.
A host of ace stallions enjoyed wins as three-year-olds in the Caulfield Guineas including Lonhro (2001) and Redoute’s Choice (1999). Some of the best earlier Caulfield Guineas winners include Ajax (1937), Tulloch (1957) and Red Anchor (1984). Champion filly Surround (1976) also features on the list of great Caulfield Guineas winners and remains the most recent filly to defeat the colts and geldings in the race.
More recent noteworthy Caulfield Guineas winners include Starspangledbanner (2009), Helmet (2011) and the $101 shock upset winner Mighty Boss (2017). In 2018 the Caulfield Guineas winner was The Autumn Sun who came off a lead-up win in the Golden Rose Stakes. He went on to also take out the Randwick Guineas – Rosehill Guineas double the following autumn.
The 2019 Caulfield Guineas Results saw Super Seth flash home late to beat star Queenslander Alligator Blood. The form of the 2019 race was franked when the runner-up Alligator Blood went on to win a host of races next prep including the Group 1 Australian Guineas at Flemington in 2020.
In 2020 the Caulfield Guineas results went the way of the punters with the favourite, Team Hawkes’ Golden Rose winner Ole Kirk, saluting.
