The 2020 Melbourne Cup results saw the internationals secure a fourth win in five years with the Joseph O’Brien-trained Twilight Payment scoring an upset at 25/1.

O’Brien won the race in 2017 with Rekindling and returned with last year’s 11th placegetter, Twilight Payment, improving immensely to hand prolific owner Lloyd Williams with his seventh win in a Melbourne Cup.

The 2020 Melbourne Cup winner Twilight Payment was giving a brazen front-running ride by 25-year-old jockey Jye McNeil and managed to lead all-the-way to hold out fellow Irish raider Tiger Moth by a quarter-length on the line.

The Melbourne Cup 2020 trifecta result was rounded out by Charlie Fellowes staying marvel Prince Of Arran in his third top three finish in the event having run third in 2018 and second in 2019.

The 160th running of the Melbourne Cup however was marred by the loss of Tiger Moth’s stablemate, Anthony Van Dyck, who fractured his leg and was subsequently euthanised.
