The 2013 Melbourne Cup results saw Sydney’s leading lady of racing Gai Waterhouse take out her first ‘Loving Trophy’ with Fiorente saluting at Melbourne Cup odds of $6. He was the first Melbourne Cup favourite to salute for the punters since the mighty Makybe Diva (2005) won her third nearly a decade earlier. The 2013 Melbourne Cup winner beat home the Ed Dunlop-trained Red Cadeaux ($61) by three-quarters of a length. Red Cadeaux also finished off the Melbourne Cup quinella in 2011 and would go on to run second to Protectionist in the 2014 Melbourne Cup results. The Luca Cumani-trained international Mount Athos ($13) finished off the 2013 Melbourne Cup trifecta.
