2016 Wyong Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Stakes Field & Odds

The Magic Millions Racing action continues at Sydney’s Wyong Racecourse on Thursday including the Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Stakes 2016 where Egyptian Symbol leads betting.

A field of 10 hopefuls was originally announced for this summer’s $100,000 Wyong Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO (1200m) race, but the early scratching of Three Hats (8) leaves nine in the mix.

Two are battling for top spot in the latest Wyong Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au with the Bjorn Baker-trained Egyptian Symbol ($2.25) and the returning Mediterranean ($2.80) tipped as the ones to beat.

Baker’s four-year-old Stratum mare Egyptian Symbol ran third in this year’s Magic Millions 3YO Guineas on the Gold Coast and also took out the Group 3 Nivison Stakes (1200m) back in mid-October at Randwick.

Her latest run was a close fifth behind Artistry at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day and she should improve off that on Thursday when she looks to go one better than her second to Flippant in the Wyong Magic Millions Stakes race 12 months ago.

The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Mediterranean heads to the Wyong track for the first time on the weekend and is heading towards the lucrative $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) in Queensland on January 14.

The progressive Smart Missile three-year-old has won just one of his seven starts to date, but is Group 1 performed and impressed in a big Randwick trial win over 1050m on December 13.

His last trip to the races in September at Rosehill produced a fifth in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m), but the shorter distance first-up this week should suit.

He is being kept safe in betting for his resuming run and also in pre-field Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas odds paying $9.

Drawn well in barrier two on Thursday with Hugh Bowman booked for the ride at Wyong is $7.50 third elect in the Magic Millions Stakes markets Golden Spin.

Prepared in Victoria by Lee & Anthony Freedman the four-year-old Medaglia D’Oro stallion is a winner of four of his eight runs so far, but hasn’t posted a victory since January.

He was last seen running on November 19 in the Ballarat Magic Millions Classic when third behind Speedeor and has finished third in a subsequent Randwick trial over 1050m this month.

Well-priced at $8.50 and rounding out the single-figure hopes is Matthew Dunn’s last start Rosehill winner Madotti.

The four-year-old Falvelon mare took out a Fillies & Mares Handicap over 1200m narrowly under a hefty 60kg weight and will relish dropping back to 57kg this week second-up.

Tye Angland retains the ride on Madotti who has the outside barrier to overcome, but room to improve on her last start.
