Due to close the Royal Randwick card on Saturday as Race 9 at 5:20pm (AEST), this year’s $300,000 Group 2 Santos Coffee Premiere Stakes (1200m) originally attracted a final field of 15 sprinters.

The line-up is down to 14 after the early scratching of the undefeated Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Russian Revolution who instead takes on the Golden Rose winner Astern earlier on the program in the $300,000 Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m).

One of just two mares in the Premiere Stakes field this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival along with the returning Kris Lees-trained Danish Twist ($18), English is hot favourite in the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3.50 to win second-up.

She is drawn wide in barrier 11 (into 10) with Tommy Berry retaining the ride after her close fifth when under two lengths off the winner Takedown in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) at the track a fortnight back.

That was the four-year-old daughter of Encosta De Lago’s first run since winning the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) also at Randwick in mid-April defeating Black Heart Bart by a long neck.

Over the 1200m at Randwick she also has stellar form having run a brave third only 1.4 lengths off super star Chautauqua in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) on April 2.

Five of her rivals in the Premiere Stakes odds post-final acceptances are also under $10 for the win including Southern Legend ($6) in the second widest alley.

Les Bridge saddles-up the local Not A Single Doubt four-year-old who is two-from-three over the 1200m and back to that distance after his brave third under a length off the winner Mackintosh at Rosehill on September 10 in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m).

Tim Clark retains the ride on Southern Legend this weekend, the consistent gelding shooting for his fifth overall career win at start number eight.

Occupying the third line of betting at $7.50 are the Stradbroke Handicap winner Under The Louvre and Takedown drawn the inside in barriers one and two respectively.

Robert Smerdon’s Excellent Art stallion Under The Louvre is after his first turf triumph since backing up off the close Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) second to Black Heart Bart in Adelaide to take out Brisbane’s Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 11.

He has had two runs this time in and returns to Sydney on the back of a fourth in the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) down the Flemington straight three weeks ago.

Takedown chases back-to-back Randwick wins this prep for Gary Moore, the Stratum four-year-old atoning for his 14th to Under The Louvre in the Stradbroke winning The Shorts two weeks ago.

Rounding out the single figure fancies at $9 are then stablemates Our Boy Malachi racing first-up and Kaepernick second-up for Hawkes Racing.

Eight-year-old warhorse Our Boy Malachi has a stellar 1200m record (7-5-0-1) and is also two-from-four at Randwick where he returns for the first time since the brave fourth in the TJ Smith.

In barrier four on Saturday, five-year-old Fastnet Rock gelding Kaepernick meanwhile ran third last start only quarter-length off Takedown in The Shorts.
