Arab Dawn is the 2016 Parramatta Cup Winner

Godolphin Australia have capped the black type races at Rosehill Gardens in this best way possible this afternoon as Arab Dawn and Allergic finished first and second in the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m).

Arab Dawn was rated only a slight chance of success in the Parramatta Cup when jumping from the gates at $16 odds, but did his claims no harm when jumping well and settling in a good position within the field of ten as Hippopus and Hasselhoof set the early pace.

Receiving an ideal run in transit on the rails, jockey Christian Reith pulled the Dalakhani gelding out rounding onto the final straight and allowed the horse plenty of time to balance before asking for a final sprint.

Locking in a sprint battle with Hasselhoof, Arab Dawn pulled clear and withstood a late charge from his stable mate to post a maiden Australian win in only his second appearance for trainer John O’Shea.

O’Shea was pleased with Arab Dawn’s performance for success in the Parramatta Cup and revealed he will be set for a race like the Group 3 NE Manion Cup (2400m) in March.

“He hasn’t been here a long time but he’s given every indication he’s got a nice future; his work has been first class,” O’Shea said.

“The information we had on him when he arrived was that he would appreciate firmer ground and it would appear as though that’s the case.

“We’ve got a young lady at Newmarket named Kate Grimwade who does an outstanding job, who does an outstanding job.

“He’ll just go along a traditional path until he gets to a mile and a half, something like a Manion and just poke along. He might be a Metropolitan horse or something like that in the spring.”

Reith delivered a great performance aboard the classy grey to win the 2016 Parramatta Cup and was pleased to post a black type win for Godolphin.

“It’s good to be back in the colours,” Reith said.

“Today was all horse – all I had to do was find the runs and he did the rest.

“He gave me a lovely feel in the run and all the breaks just came our way. We were probably fortunate with that and that’s why we came away with the win today.

“The horse was probably a little bit fresh today and travelled a little bit keen, but his acceleration was explosive, he’s a horse with a lot ahead of him and I think he’s got big things in his sights.”

Arab Dawn has posted five wins and four minors through his seventeen career starts.
