2015 Moir Stakes Betting Tips

Tonight under the lights at Moonee Valley Racecourse the Group 1 action of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival continues with the Moir Stakes 2015, betting tips for the sprint classic found below.

Buffering

Two time winner of the race in the past three years – Buffering is the Races.com.au tip to win Friday night’s 2015 Moir Stakes once more. Photo: Race Horse Photos Australia.

Thirteen short-distance specialists are engaged for this season’s $450,000 Group 1 City Jeep Moir Stakes (1000m), the weight-for-age classic running as Race 7 at 9:45pm (AEST) this evening.

Leading the current Moir Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, who are offering Best Tote or SP + 20% on the race, is the undefeated Ciaron Maher-trained filly Petits Filous at a firming $2.20.

The money is steady for the well-drawn daughter of Street Boss and her hoop Glen Boss, after his first Moir Stakes win since Mistegic (2001), who is yet to taste defeat from her four career runs including two at this track and distance.

Her main dangers according to the bookies are fellow single-figure hopes in Moir Stakes betting are Fontiton ($4.60) who is the other three-year-old filly getting in on 51kg under the WFA conditions and two-time Moir Stakes winner and defending champ Buffering ($7.50).

So can Petits Filous stay unbeaten? Will Buffering become a triple winner to add to his 2012 and 2014 titles? Or is there an upset Moir Stakes result on the card from a double figure hope such as Joe Pride’s super-consistent sprinter Ball Of Muscle ($10) who gets the rails run from barrier one?

Our 2015 Moir Stakes Trifecta Tip is #1 Buffering from #13 Petits Filous and #6 Ball Of Muscle

1st

#1 Buffering ($7.50)

Robert Heathcote’s Brisbane-trained sprint champion Buffering has won two of the past three editions of the Moir, including last year over the 1200m. He’s back again tonight looking for a third trophy jumping from a nice barrier five draw with his regular rider Damian Browne in the saddle again. The now eight-year-old son of Mossman is first-up and flies fresh with an outstanding first-up record (10-7-1-1). He is also a gun at the tight Moonee Valley track (9-4-1-1-) and has won three from five over the 1000m that looks ideal for his resuming run. He hasn’t raced since December overseas in Hong Kong, but he is brave and this is his race to lose.

2nd

#13 Petits Filous ($2.20)

Deserving favourite, Maher’s unbeaten filly is out to defeat the older rivals here and become the first three-year-old to take out the Moir since Virage De Fortune (2005) a decade ago. She has won two from two over the 1000m at Moonee Valley so can handle the track no worries, and should get a great run from barrier five. Her last two wins were over 1100m in black-type company and while this is a step up in class, she’s getting the weight relief dropping back from 57kg last time out to just 51kg making her a big lightweight danger.

3rd

#6 Ball Of Muscle ($10)

So many livewire chances for the minor placings, but hard to knock the consistency of Pride’s Sydney sprinter Ball Of Muscle who is yet to finish out of the money in his 15 starts that have produced eight wins. The last of those was in Brisbane’s Group 2 QTC Cup (1200m) back in May, but his two lead-up Sydney runs into this Melbourne assignment were good including crossing a nose off Rebel Dane in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m). This is his first look at the Valley so he needs to handle the track, but his record over the distance is impressive (4-2-1-1).

Whether you’re backing or sacking our Moir Stakes 2015 betting tips this evening, make sure you access the Best Tote or SP + 20% markets that have Petits Filous at $3.52 for the win right now at Ladbrokes.com.au!
