2015 Anzac Day Stakes Nominations Feature Sea Of Tranquility

This Saturday a double shot of Listed racing action will play out at Flemington Racecourse on ANZAC Day including the aptly named Anzac Day Stakes 2015 where Sea Of Tranquility is one of the headline nominations.

A total of 21 early entries were taken by Racing Victoria on Monday for this year’s $120,000 Listed Anzac Day Stakes (1400m), the handicap clash for two-year-olds drawing a high number of hopefuls this autumn.

Prepared by the Mornington-based Matt Laurie, Dash For Cash gelding Sea Of Tranquility shoots for back-to-back wins when he steps up in class and distance off his successful debut win over 1109m at Seymour on April 9.

Heading the Anzac Day Stakes ratings is the Colin & Cindy Alderson-trained My Poppette, the Snippetson filly lining up in her third career start if accepted.

She won her debut over 1200m at Pakenham on March 26 before finishing two lengths away second to Black Vanquish last time out over the same distance but this time at Flemington from a wide barrier 10 of 13 draw on April 11.

There are a number of other recent city placegetters among the nominations too including the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained More Than Most, Pat Hyland’s Lizard Island and Zarabeel for Leon & Troy Corstens.

More Than Ready colt More Than Most has Group 3 form having run sixth to Thurlow at Sandown in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) back in February, and was last seen running third to Caro Kann at Caulfield over 1100m on April 4.

Runner-up in that same two-year-old handicap in Melbourne was Sebring colt Lizard Island on debut and ready for an improved run in Saturday’s Anzac Day Stakes.

Savabeel filly Zarabeel meanwhile will also be having just her second career start this weekend if she runs after a third in the same race My Poppette graduates from.

Coming off a Group race place is the Darren Weir-trained Starcraft gelding Petracca, the grey having had three runs for two seconds so far including behind The Grey Flash when beaten only a quarter-length on April 11 in Adelaide’s Group 3 Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

Godolphin and John O’Shea have nominated for an unraced pair of youngsters with New Approach filly Glib and Hard Spun gelding Unbreakable looking to make an early impact.

Other notable Anzac Day Stakes nominees include the Peter Moody-trained Invincible Knight and Adelaide Sires’ Produce fifth placed Zero Red.

The full Anzac Day Stakes 2015 nominations are detailed below with final acceptances revealing the field out on Wednesday morning.
