2015 Liverpool City Cup Betting Tips

The Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) is one of seven races running at Warwick Farm this Saturday in support of the feature race – Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m).

14 sprint-mile runners are set to tackle the $150,000 race, five of which are offering single figure odds in the betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.

The Gerald Ryan-trained Red Excitement is the $3.80 favourite, set to jump from barrier four with Brenton Avdulla to ride.

Red Excitement missed the majority of 2014 after suffering a leg injury during his win in the Eatability Handicap (1600m) last February. Following ten months on the sidelines, the gelding returned with a strong victory, continuing his winning streak.

Winning his past five starts in a row, it’s not hard to see why Red Excitement is the 2015 Liverpool City Cup favourite. However he will face his toughest test to date in the Group race. Is he good enough to justify his favouritism and win on Saturday? Check out our betting tips for the race below.

1st

#4 Red Excitement ($3.80

Our 2015 Liverpool City Cup trifecta tip is #4 Red Excitement from #6 Rudy and #10 Territory.

One of two Gerald Ryan-trained runners in the Liverpool City Cup, Red Excitement is in great form to win his first Group level race in over two years. The five-year-old gelding has won all five of his past starts, spanning back to January last year. He proved he hadn’t lost his winning form following his ten-month injury absence in the Drummond Golf Handicap (1400m) back in December before winning the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) last month. Red Excitement will jump from barrier four with Brenton Avdulla to ride.

2nd

#6 Rudy ($13)

Helen Page’s classy gelding Rudy is set to have his first start since winning the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) on December 13 in the Liverpool City Cup and is a great betting prospect for punters at a win rate of $13 or $3.90 to place. The four-year-old gelding is in top form, finishing first two in all four of his past starts but will be making his debut over both the trip and distance. Rudy will jump from barrier 11 with Luke Tarrant to ride.

3rd

#10 Territory ($7.50)

Jarrod Austin’s seven-year-old gelding Territory is a safe bet to round out your trifecta considering he has finished third in all three of his starts this campaign. Territory began his campaign in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) before heading to the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m). Territory has finished in the first two in three of his four starts at Warwick Farm but the gelding will have to overcome a wide start from barrier 12.
