The BMW 2014 Odds Update – Silent Achiever Market Mover

Odds on Roger James’ Group 1 winning Kiwi mare Silent Achiever to score her third elite level on the trot in this afternoon’s 2014 The BMW have firmed dramatically as the rain falls in Sydney.

A five-year-old daughter of O’reilly, Silent Achiever scored an upset at the Rosehill track last start on March 22 when having her first run down under for the season.

Following back-to-back victories at home, including the Group 1 New Zealand Stakes (2000m), she caught out the locals in a gritty Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) victory on March 22.

Now she’s out to do it again, this time on a rain-affected track in the $1.5 million Group 1 The BMW (2400m) on Golden Slipper Day.

Twelve months ago the 2012 New Zealand Derby winner was in Sydney for the second time, running fifth in the Ranvet before going down a long neck to favourite Fiveandahalfstar in The BMW run on a Slow (7) track.

Steady money says she can go one better here in another wet Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival major, the course proper currently in the Heavy range, Silent Achiever coming in from $4.60 to $3.70 to take out The BMW from barrier four with Nash Rawiller aboard.

The other major The BMW betting market mover is then imported Irish St Leger winner Voleuse De Coeurs.

As long as $14 this week, the Michael Moroney-trained Teofilo mare is now right into $6 to post her maiden win down under.

After taking out last September’s Irish St Leger by a tidy six lengths she was bought to Australia where, from a wide barrier 21 of 24 gate, she ran 10th just scraping into the prize money recipients in the Melbourne Cup behind Fiorente.

She returned off a four month break on March 8 for a fifth to Fiorente in the Australian Cup where her finishing effort was a strong one, odds are Voleuse De Coeurs will improve on that especially going up to the mile and a half.

The BMW betting favourite at an easing price meanwhile is the Gai Waterhouse-trained Fiorente out from $3.20 to $3.50.

It’s a small field so barrier matter little but the Monsun stallion has the inside alley which could cause some traffic issues for them with the give out of the ground.

Fiorente is likely looking for this distance, the reigning Melbourne Cup (3200m) winner and recent Australian Cup (2000m) champ looking to atone for a disappointing seventh in the Ranvet.

They haven’t seen a Slow-rated track since July of 2012 when they were still racing in Britain, but they handled the conditions and while there’s a query over their wet track ability they are in with a genuine shot of a form return here.

The other major player in The BMW betting this year is then Ranvet Stakes third placegetter, the Murray Baker-trained High Chaparral four-year-old It’s A Dundeel.

A five-time Group 1 champ, the Kiwi raider is now paying a steady $4.80 to make it six elite levels on Aussie soil and their second at the track adding to their seven length Rosehill Guineas romp as a three-year-old last autumn.

They’re also proven on Heavy and Slow tracks with a Hobartville Stakes fourth last year in the mud and their most recent Group 1 victory, the Underwood Stakes on a Slow (6) in Melbourne last September.
